Another twist in India’s uncertainty to play in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which is to be hosted by Pakistan. According to reports, the BCCI has rejected another proposal sent over from the Pakistan Cricket Board – and cricket fans as well as organizers are less than impressed at this development, for they fear that India will miss out on the event.
Why Does This Matter for Cricket Fans?
For more than ten years, India and Pakistan have had no bilateral series because of the political situation and mutual mistrust between them and therefore, the two teams have only faced each other in the ICC tournaments. The fans eagerly look forward to the clash of two big nations but anything less certain is India playing in Pakistan. This rejection has left some fresh questions to the tournament — especially for those who wish to see the teams clash on the Pakistani soil.
The Proposal and Rejection
Reports say that the PCB planned a special solution to India’s issues of playing in Pakistan. In this plan, as devised by the PCB, after each Lahore match, the Indian team was allowed to return to India in which the logistics support would be provided by Pakistan. It was an idea to slightly alleviate the Indian reservations about staying in Pakistan for an extended period due to security and political issues.
However, the BCCI official said that the board has had no formal communication on this proposition. Even if the proposal was formally presented, the BCCI made it clear that the Indian government will have to give its nod for India to participate in Pakistan. The rejection further reinforces the likelihood that India will push for a hybrid model, under which their matches could be played outside Pakistan.
The History of the Standoff
The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan dates back to 2008. The teams have not faced each other in any bilateral series since then. The two teams would prefer to face each other in the international ICC tournaments. Cricketing ties between the two countries is still strained because of the political tension between them. The Indian government has already been very decisive on whether the team would participate or not in the events based in Pakistan. Fans will find it quite challenging to catch up with the much-awaited match.

The tournament is scheduled from 19 February to 9 March in venues of Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. Group-stage matches by India are scheduled for February 20, 23, and March 2. Their presence is uncertain at the moment. The authorities along with cricket fans are waiting for more information hoping that a resolution would come in place before the start of the tournament.
With time, cricket fans will be anxiously waiting to see whether the BCCI and PCB can at least find some common ground or whether India’s matches are shifted out of Pakistan.
