Today is Defence and Martyrs Day to honor the great martyrs and the brave Ghazis who have fought so bravely and are fighting for our dear motherland. This day serves as a powerful reminder of our nation’s commitment to protect Pakistan against all threats and challenges, reaffirming the unwavering spirit of our armed forces and citizens.

Honoring the Heroes of 1965

Defence and Martyrs Day is observed to honor the events of September 6, 1965 when Indian forces wanted to attack Pakistan under the blanket of darkness and intruded across the international border. The sons and daughters of Pakistan did not falter and instead, shut out the enemy’s plans single-mindedly and fought with extraordinary strength. This day is not just an ordinary day in the calendar system; it is a symbol of bravery, valor, and the spirit of the strong citizens and our armed forces.

A Day of Remembrance and Tribute

The Defence and Martyrs day begins with a 31 gun salute in the Federal capital Islamabad and 21 gun salute in provincial capitals out of honour for the nation’s defenders. In mosques after Fajr, specific prayers are recited for Allah’s blessings on Pakistan along with the freedom of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. There are Fateha and Quran Khawani ceremonies during the day to pray for the souls of the martyrs who gave up their precious lives for the cause of duty.

A Legacy of Courage and Commitment

On the occasion of the 59th Defence and Martyrs Day, Pakistan’s armed forces have saluted the heroes and Ghazis and revisited the events of the long-drawn 1965 war. The Chairman JCSC, Services Chiefs, and entire Pakistan Armed Forces proudly celebrate this day and the victory which symbolizes our nation’s indomitable spirit

This day will indeed act as a reminder that armed forces of Pakistan have always been on stand-by to defend this sovereignty of the country. The dedication of our armed forces and veterans still serve as the motivating force for the entire country, and is a reminder of the spirit and determination that form the foundation of the nation.
