Muhammad Talha, a Pakistani weightlifter, broke the national clean-and-jerk record during the Asian Games 2025 trials in Islamabad this week. This is a big deal for Pakistan’s sports community.
His performance not only got him a spot on Pakistan’s Asian Games team, but it also gave people hope that he could win a medal at the continental event in Bangkok, Thailand, later this year.

A Historic Lift
Talha lifted an amazing 162 kilograms in the clean-and-jerk, breaking the previous national record by 4 kilograms in the 67kg weight class. He then did a 130-kg snatch, which brought his total to 292 kg. This is the most weight ever lifted by a Pakistani in this category.
Talha told reporters after the event,
“This is only the start. I’m training to bring a medal home for Pakistan.”
The Pakistani Weightlifter
The record-breaking performance comes at a very important time for Pakistan’s weightlifting federation, which is trying to rebuild the sport after years of money problems and lack of facilities.
The Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) has recently worked with private sponsors to build new training centers in Lahore and Karachi. Sports Board Punjab supports these centers by providing them with platforms and coaching programs that meet international standards.
Irfan Bhatti, Secretary of the PWF, said,
“Talha’s success shows what young Pakistani athletes can do when they get the right training and support.”
Talha will now compete for Pakistan at the 2025 Asian Games with lifters from Uzbekistan, Japan, and China, which are some of the best teams in the area. His current stats put him in the top five lifters in Asia, and experts think he has a good chance of finishing in the top three.
Coaches are also focusing on nutrition and preventing injuries, which used to hold Pakistan back from making progress on the world stage.
Pakistani Weightlifter Muhammad Talha’s record-breaking lift is more than just a win in sports; it’s a sign of Pakistan’s growing love of sports. As the Asian Games 2025 get closer, the hopes of the whole country rest on him. He is strong, determined, and ready to raise Pakistan’s pride to new heights.
