Pakistan is working to make its cities smarter and greener.
The federal and provincial governments have announced that they will be expanding pakistan metro networks in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, and Peshawar. This will include new routes, eco-friendly buses, and ticketing systems that work together.
The goal of the project, which is part of the National Urban Transport Vision 2025, is to cut down on traffic jams, air pollution, and long commutes in Pakistan’s busiest cities.
What Metro Expansion Is All About
The goal of the Pakistan Metro Expansion 2025 project is to – Cut the time it takes to get to work by 30% to 40%, Make it easier for cars to get around in cities, Use hybrid and electric fleets to cut down on carbon emissions, By 2027, 25% of all travel in the city should be by public transportation.

During a press conference in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Transport Ahsan Iqbal said, “This isn’t just about transportation; it’s about changing cities for people, not cars.”
Smart Technology and Green Mobility
Every new route will have solar-powered stations, digital displays of the route, and ways to pay without touching anything. Pakistan will work with China’s CRRC Corporation and Turkey’s Ulasim A.S. to create smart mobility cards that can be used in all cities, doing away with paper tickets completely.
The Green Line in Karachi already runs on buses that meet Euro-VI standards. The new line in Lahore is expected to use fully electric buses, which would be a first for Pakistan’s metro system.
What people are saying and the problems they are facing
People in big cities have liked the idea, especially since gas prices and the cost of private transportation keep going up. Critics, on the other hand, point out worries about the costs of maintenance and the time it takes for provincial systems to work together.
To fix these problems, the National Transport Authority (NTA) will use a single app to keep track of routes and make sure they are all the same.
The Pakistan Metro Expansion 2025 is a brave step toward making cities more sustainable. The project could change the way millions of Pakistanis travel every day by adding new routes, using green technology, and updating the country’s infrastructure.
